Installation

So you never want to be without power again? Great! Now what?

Meet P&G at your complimentary site consultation. At your site consultation, we will explain the difference in whole house and essential circuit generator sizing, and see which one fits your needs—and your budget—better. We will also determine the best location for your generator, taking into account:

  • Codes- Generators have to be located a certain distance away from windows, walls and other installations. We’ll help determine the safest place to locate your generator.
  • Landscaping- We love sharing suggestions on safe and effective ways to screen your generator using landscaping techniques.
  • Noise- The sound enclosures on our Kohler backup generators keep operating noise levels slightly louder than a typical air-conditioning unit. While noise during a power outage might not be a concern, Kohler generators also perform a 20-minute, full-speed exercise and a self-diagnostic test weekly to ensure that they are ready to start and run when needed. We’ll consult on location—keeping in mind windows, outdoor areas and sensitive neighbors.
  • Utility Connections- It’s usually most cost-effective to be close to the fuel and power supplies. However, sometimes these are on opposite sides of your home. We’ll work with you to establish the most cost-effective and least intrusive routing.

How much is this going to cost?

A home generator plus installation typically starts under $7,000. However, the total cost will vary based on your power and installation needs.

When shopping standby home generators, your checklist should include generator, automatic transfer switch, permits and quality installation. But don’t worry. P&G will handle all the details, so you don’t have to. And P&G offers multiple financing options with approved credit so you can pay over time.

Schedule installation

Depending on inventory, scheduling and your site requirements, we can often schedule installation within two weeks. Larger generators, installation of LP tanks, busy utility companies/permit offices or extensive utility work might push this out a little more.

What’s involved in installation?

Most installations take a day or two. And P&G will take care of it all. We’ll coordinate our team of licensed technicians to make sure the job’s done right. Here’s how it works:

  • We pull all necessary permits.
  • Our electrician will install your transfer switch.
  • After that’s installed, the team will move your generator in place.
  • Electric lines will then be connected from your transfer switch to your generator.
  • Once electric is hooked up, we will make the proper connections from the fuel source (either natural gas or LP) to the generator.
  • After electric and fuel is hooked up, your generator is ready to start and protect your home.
  • BONUS: P&G includes the first year’s generator service for free!*

*Generator must be purchased from and installed by P&G. Does not apply to units that have been serviced or worked on by others in interim. Offer expires 365 days from date of start-up.
